They can still sprint, merely are overall slower than normal, making running from enemies slightly harder. Damage taken in this country lowers the political party member's max HP (though they tin absorb quite a lot of damage), and if their max HP becomes 0, they enter a Down country. Max HP too slowly depletes over fourth dimension until the party fellow member recovers. Party members in Danger can be restored to boxing condition by healing them with items, using Ignis'due south Regroup technique, or the Rescue command.
Noctis volition recover from Danger over time while controlled, but his allies will not. Ignis can still dodge-roll in Danger, and also recovers from Danger almost instantly when he is controlled past pressing the warp push. If Noctis is caught in a QTE attack during Danger, the game instantly locks into a game over. Guests cannot enter Danger state, and thus can't be placed in a Down state either.

The player'south allies being Downed is a summon condition for Titan.
Some enemies have Instant Expiry attacks that instantly put a character to Downwardly without them inbound Danger condition first, such as the coeurls' blaster set on they use when lying downward. The Safety Bit and Ribbon accessories, besides as the Decease-Defying food buff and the Medjay Assassin'south Robe attires, protect against Instant Death.
The player can inflict Instant Death with the Death Penalty; when equipped to Prompto and using his multi-hit attacks like Vehement, every hitting has a i% run a risk to inflict Instant Death. The Instant Decease effect can be bestowed onto Elemancy with the applicable catalysts. The Decease spell from the Ring of the Lucii works a fleck differently; it fills an invisible "death bar" on an enemy vulnerable to it that kills the enemy when filled, but dissimilar enemies accept variable resistance to information technology.
In the Windows- and Royal Edition-exclusive dominate battles at the Citadel, the game automatically character-swaps to Gladiolus, Prompto and Ignis when fighting the rulers of yore. If the marry was Downwardly when the character-swap happens, they come up back to life with 1 HP.

Continually drains HP and negates passive HP regen. Unlike other negative effects, Toxicant tin can persist after battle (and briefly stun Noctis every few seconds in the aforementioned fashion as if he were attempting to use an ability in Stasis), though it is more often than not harmless. The player tin inflict it on enemies with the Assassin'south Daggers, Calamity, and Bioblaster. Ignis tin can inflict poison using the Ascension node Venom Fang when Noctis blitzes enemies. Description
Sectional to the political party; for Noctis, it makes him change weapons at random while attacking (information technology will never pick the Band of the Lucii or Elemancy, notwithstanding). When controlling someone, it reverses the actor's directional controls, and general immunity to friendly fire is negated; being in the set on vicinity of a confused party member will inflict impairment rather than clip harmlessly and trigger usual dodging vox cues. Noctis can still summon when dislocated. For AI-controlled Gladiolus/Ignis/Prompto, it causes them to attack both friend and foe. If Noctis is AI-controlled and confused, he will warp effectually randomly and fall downwards. Confused allies' attacks won't Down anyone. Confused characters' speech has them sound bewildered, dazed and mumbling. The affliction is signified with an iridescent brume around their head. It is cured past Smelling Salts.
When fought as a training partner, Prompto'due south Starshell can inflict the status on Noctis.

The histrion can inflict it on enemies with the Vigilantes. Prompto can inflict Stop using the Ascent node Scintilla. Enemies inflicted with end become vulnerable as well. The Golden Hourglass and Ribbon protect against it, as well as the Resilient food buff. It tin can't be cured with Remedies.

Death [ ]
Exclusive to enemies; Decease is applied by Noctis via the Ring of the Lucii.
Death deals impairment, slows the enemy down, and applies a debuff that instantly kills the enemy when fully applied (a red skull appears next to the enemy's proper name if they can be killed by Death). When Noctis is non casting it, the effect of this invisible debuff gradually wanes. When the "instant death meter" is full, the enemy dies and Noctis recovers half his maximum HP. If the enemy dies from the damage Death deals, Noctis doesn't get healed. Some rare enemies are allowed to the instant decease effect, but even nigh bosses are susceptible.
The impairment and instant death rate are affected by Noctis's Magic stat and the enemy's hidden "death resistance" stat. Expiry works at its maximum capacity when Noctis has roughly 500 Magic; increasing his Magic across this will non boost Death further. Death ignores buffs obtained from eating food.

Distinct from Burnt, which is acquired by coming into contact with open flame, and has a unique orange icon. The Casual Outfits, Trendy Outfit, and Thermal Outfits don't prevent it, but Ribbons do. The Magitek Exosuit only wards it off in battle. This status can't exist healed with items, merely wears off over fourth dimension.
Vulnerable [ ]
Status when incapacitated and open to assail.
Description
Vulnerable enemies will stop attacking and go more susceptible, indicated by "Vulnerable" text. Different enemy types have different conditions for becoming vulnerable, just common ways are to parry their attack, interrupt their set on when they accuse it, break their appendages, or warp-strike from far abroad. Cantankerous chain prompts can be triggered by Noctis. Some weapons, such as the Main Gauches and Carelessness of the Vortex, inflict increased impairment to vulnerable targets.
Precisely how the vulnerability mechanics work is not explained in any official guide, but it appears each enemy has a hidden meter that causes the condition when filled.[one] Unlike weapons and maneuvers with them fill up this subconscious guess at varying rates (e.g. "heavy-striking" weapons, like greatswords and some royal artillery, are better at making enemies vulnerable than daggers or firearms), only information technology also depends on the player's level; it is nigh impossible to inflict vulnerability on enemies that are on much college level than the player, making low level claiming playthroughs even more of a challenge. The damage the role player'southward attacks deal does not seem to factor in making enemies vulnerable, only the attack used and the role player'due south level.[1]
The Axe of the Conqueror is exceptionally good at making enemies vulnerable. The longest altitude warp-strikes, and a perfectly timed Holy, make the target briefly vulnerable, only for the warp-strike the distance needed depends on the enemy (around 2-3.5x warp-strike multiplier).[ane] Breaking an enemy appendage might also immediately put them into a vulnerable state, and sure enemies and bosses become vulnerable when the histrion parries their attack.
Omega tin can inflict a unique Vulnerable condition on the party represented by a red icon, setting them upwardly to be Downed in ane hit from a follow-up blast. This condition cannot be healed or blocked with Ribbons.
When decision-making Prompto, vulnerable enemies will glow blue and may have the same ruddy icon applied to them, indicating they tin can exist crackshotted. He can crackshot a vulnerable target up to three times. Prompto's Lumen Flares can easily put enemies into a vulnerable country.
During the "Charlatan from Some other Globe" quest, the Set on Node, Defence force Node, and Mortar Arrangement enemies tin take the Vulnerable status icon briefly announced on them when attacked.
In Episode Ardyn, the player can daemonify vulnerable enemies.
Clouded [ ]

Description
Sectional to Ignis when he is controlled. It is granted by either negative upshot of the Quick Recipeh technique, the former of which leads Ignis to shake his head in disgust, and the more severe causing him to stumble to the footing. Clouded depletes the Total Clarity bar and prevents it from rising. Information technology wears off if Ignis is switched to another character. Ignores immunities.
Inconsistent [ ]
Quick Recipeh-based condition that prevents the damage modifier from increasing.
Clarification
Exclusive to Ignis when he is controlled. Information technology is granted by either negative outcome of the Quick Recipeh technique, the former of which leads Ignis to shake his caput in disgust, and the more severe causing him to stumble to the footing. Inconsistent depletes Ignis'south damage meter to 1.0x and prevents information technology from ascent. Information technology wears off if Ignis is switched to another character. Ignores immunities.
List of positive statuses from food [ ]

The Aftertaste, Lingering Aftertaste, and Persistent Palatableness nodes in the Exploration nexus of Ascension boost the duration of military camp meals to the sunrise of the adjacent 24-hour interval, the nightfall of the next day, and the sunrise of the second day after, respectively. Food buffs don't lose duration when fast-forwarding fourth dimension at havens, only will when motorcar-traveling. Food effects are often incremental, using an effect multiplier to grant enhanced stat buffs.
Some statuses have different names in the food menus than in the main carte icon guide. Resilient is called Allowed in the primary card guide; Resistant is Resistance Boost; Technician is Tech Boost; and Endurance is Endurance Boost.

Shields tin still be used to block fifty-fifty in Stasis, and Airslip works when in Stasis with a shield.
MP regeneration halts until Noctis stops attacking for several seconds, or takes cover. Stasis can be recovered in this fashion or with MP recovery items. Indicate-warping fully refills MP and can be used to recover from Stasis. The Static Edge node of the Gainsay nexus in Rising significantly increases damage dealt while in Stasis, making information technology potentially advantageous in sure situations.
Stasis does not take an icon, but is shown on the MP bar with the give-and-take "Stasis" in large messages surrounded by a pinkish effect. The Stasis flow for Gladiolus and Ignis is significantly shorter than for Noctis, but they cannot dodge-roll or brace attacks. In Episode Ardyn, Ardyn as well recovers quicker from Stasis than Noctis.
Stasis has no effect in Armiger. Though using Alterna uses upwardly all MP, it doesn't put Noctis into Stasis.
Overkill [ ]
When Ardyn's HP is depleted in Episode Ardyn, rather than entering Danger, he enters Overkill, in which he transforms into an undying country. His MP and phantasmal meter are depleted, and his blitz combo becomes a cord of powerful punches. Ifrit can't exist summoned in this land.
Ardyn's max HP doesn't drain over time but will deplete from taking hits, though he won't exist staggered. Later waiting a period of time, or using an item, he will revert to normal and restore his HP.
